Count Raven - Mammons War (2009)

Eis um dos regressos mais aguardados de 2009. Já lá vão 13 anos desde que estes senhores lançaram o seu último registo, "Messiah Of Confusion"; após a separação em 1998, a reunião efectua-se 5 anos depois, mas só agora é que nos chega a novidade "Mammons War".
Se alguém ainda poderia esperar alguma alteração ao nível do registo sonoro desengane-se; o que aqui temos é mais um momento de glorificação/continuação (riscar o que não interessar) do legado Black Sabbath, em que a voz de Dan Fondellus não se desvia um milímetro da do timbre de Ozzy, a sua guitarra continua a desfilar uma série de riffs monolíticos e cativantes e a dupla baixo/bateria confere uma base sólida para uma toada própria do traditional doom.
Como já referi, não existem grandes alterações no espectro musical destes suecos, mas destaco aqui 3 temas: "The Poltergeist", logo a abrir, mostra-nos uns Count Raven cheios de energia, um pouco mais rápidos e com uma malha que nos fica imediatamente na cabeça; no entanto, foi impossível não lembrar-me de "Death Magic Doom" dos Candlemass, que também começa da mesma forma e, depois, regressa a terrenos mais familiares. "Scream", continua a cativar com mais uns bons riffs e com um refrão simples mas orelhudo, em que os sinos incorporados dão um toque decisivo para o resultado final do mesmo. Tem cheiro de single! Por último, "Mammons War", o tema-título, onde estamos somente perante Fondellus e as teclas, num tema épico e agradável, permitindo tomar balanço para o longo "A Lifetime". Uma nota final para os interessantes arranjos acústicos que, por vezes, aparecem e criam uma paleta de cores uma pouco mais alargada do que os tons negros e cinzentos que pairam de sobremaneira neste álbum.
13 anos depois, valeu bem a espera e os Count Raven demonstraram, com este trabalho, que são um dos expoentes do doom europeu. Agora, resta sonhar que haja uma data marcada para estas bandas. (15/20)

Here is one of the most anticipated returns of 2009. There have been 13 years since these guys released their last record, "Messiah Of Confusion", after their split in 1998, their reunion takes place five years later, but the new "Mammons War" is only now reaching us.
If someone could still expect some changes at the sound level think again, what we have here is another moment of glorification of Black Sabbath's legacy in the voice of Dan Fondellus which does not deviate a millimeter from Ozzy’s timbre, his guitar continues to parade a series of monolithic, catchy riffs and the double bass / drums give a solid basis for one's own tune of Traditional Doom.
As mentioned, there are no major changes in the musical spectrum of Swedes, but three themes stand out here: "The Poltergeist", in the beginning, show us some energetic and a little faster Count Raven with a song that we immediately save in our heads; however, it was impossible not to remember "Death Magic Doom", from Candlemass, which begins the same way and then returns to a more familiar terrain. "Scream" continues to captivate with a few more good riffs and a chorus with a simple but catchy, in which the incorporated bells give a decisive touch to its final result. It smells like single! Finally, "Mammons War," the title theme, only whit Fondellus and keys, is an epic and enjoyable theme, gaining momentum for the long "A Lifetime".
A final note for the interesting acoustic arrangements that sometimes appear and create a colored palette which is a little wider than the black and gray tones that hover greatly on this album.
13 years later, it was well worth the wait and the Count Raven demonstrated, with this work, that they are one of the exponents of European Doom Metal. Now, it remains the dream that a concert date will be set for these bands. (15/20)
